Make your Motocross training better and see results

January 29, 2008 By: admin Category: Training

I have been training for Motocross for past 2 years. I have seen significant progress in my performance, still I was not satisfied as it was not a measured approach. What all we did was just kept practicing laps. We had a belief of practice makes man perfect, it does but it is very important to know what was good and what was not. There were so many things which did matter and not only the bike ride. One of my friends recommended me to this software called MX Training Journal. I was unaware that there are personal software diaries which could be used. Initially I was a bit doubtful about how this could work, also the adaptability on my side was doubtful as we were so used what we were doing. However, since it was just a matter of approximately $40 and I could request a money back within 8 weeks if I was not satisfied, I decided to give it a try.

Initially it took time for me to get used to usage of the software, not because of the software but for using my laptop during my training and performing the data entry for all things. The software is easy and simple to use and has all kinds of guides included within the software. I also downloaded the videos they provide on their website for the usage of the software, so helped a lot and could use the software at ease without loosing much time.

As things moved on I was amazed by the way it worked and the benefits it provided. It helped me know various facts which I was over looking during my training like my bike setup and my diet. It helped me keep record of my past activities and gave me a comprehensive analysis of my lap times which was the most important thing.

The software has numerous sections as per the categorization of the activity. The Training section allows me to keep track of how I performed in various circumstances with various setups. We are allowed to enter information related to our track practice and keep record of it. We can make a search for the past track practice.

Only after using this software I realized how important the diet was for a racer. The software has a Diet section where they have food stuff in their database to be selected for the diet schedule. Meals can be created and you can see what nutrients are consumed.

We can maintain our schedule on the software as it is not practical to remember the long schedules. So this helps me to enter my planned schedule just follow it. Everyday before sleeping I check my next day’s schedule and I know what to do and when to do for the day.

The software has taken care of very important aspect that is the analysis. That is where the software wins. They have this section called diagrams which provide graphical presentations and analysis of the lap times which allows you to make a strong comparison analysis. This allows me to know how I am progressing and compare with the changes I made which affected the performance.

Overall it has helped me a lot and to improve my training and I can feel the difference of the progress I made in the first 2 years and what I have achieved for last 4 months after using the software. I am really glad even the motocross industry becoming computer tech savvy and we have technical solutions for this sport too. I will suggest this software for all motocross racers.

Here’s a link to the software. MX Training

Mountain Bike Safety

January 23, 2008 By: admin Category: Tips

The most important thing to anything in life is your safety and well being, well this doesn’t change when your into extreme sports like mountain biking. Like every sport though if you take the few necessary precautions you should be able to remain safe.

I’m sure you’ve heard this next rule a million times but it’s because it has the most importance, that rule is always wear your helmet. Whether you’re biking down the street or biking through the mountains a helmet is always needed for safety. Your head is the most important piece of your body other then the heart so you need to protect it by all means.

If you are going to be biking through trails then get yourself a pair of leather biking gloves, nothing stings more then cut up hands from a wipe-out. Once you make sure you have these two things you are ready to be in the mountains riding your bike, but before this make sure you do an inspection of your bike. The minimum you should be checking your bike for faulty parts, and broken pieces is once every year when you take it out, but I find it more realistic to give your bike a check at least three times a year. Checking it at the beginning of each season you use it is a good way to tell when you should check your bike. If you use it during the spring, summer, and fall check it three times, if you use it less then make the according adjustments.

The model of the bike is the Q220 from their Felt Q Series. The bike comes in all black and is a one piece metal frame. If you’re looking for an adventure then this is a good bike to start with, it’s a quality bike and can be used by any beginner to biking. If you need a more reliable higher class bike then they offer that as well. Their bikes are anywhere from $1000-$5000 in price and you are getting a top quality bike for this price. Felt bikes offer balance, strength, lightweight, and amazing geographic design.

Felt’s dirt jump bikes are ideal for the professional and offers a high standard in heavy dirt bike trials. You won’t be slowed down in anyway at all going through mud with this bike. These bikes range in price from $3000 - $7000.

I wouldn’t recommend this bike for the casual rider, but for anyone into the sport you should look into a Felt Bike for yourself.

Marzocchi Mountain Bike Fork

Marzocchi offers leading industry bike forks, they have them for all types of different styles, and features. Some of the features seen on these bike forks you wouldn’t expect to find.

Most people don’t know that you can customize a bike from the very beginning and if you’re looking for a cheap alternative to buying a new mountain bike, you could think about buying the parts and building your own.

Marzocchi bike forks are very reliable and made of great quality. There is nothing skipped in the process Marzocchi uses to build each and every bike fork.

Generally their bike forks are very simple to install and you should have no troubles in doing so. If you think you have no mechanical sense at all you can take your bike and fork to most shops and they will install it for you for a small fee.

Custom bike forks are used mainly for the durability and balance of bicycles. These forks have helped me from crashing horribly sometimes as it can help impact badly judged landings.

January 16, 2008 By: admin Category: Tips

Are you new to Mountain Biking? Or perhaps you’ve been riding for years without making an effort to advance your skills and overcome your fears? If this sounds familiar then I’ll be willing to bet at least one of the following applies to you …

You absolutely hate climbing hills! - you get exhausted way too quickly and embarrassed when you have to get off and push…
You have to slow down to a crawl at corners, especially on loose dirt and gravel - you can’t shake nasty images of your bike sliding out from underneath you…
You can’t understand how other riders simply glide over boulders and tree roots so quickly and easily - while you feel like you’re riding a boneshaker…
Nobody ever told you the real secret of using all those gears properly
You’ve never quite known which brake you should be using when…
You always wanted to learn how to pull wheelies, bunny hops and jumps - but just never had the nerve or the know-how to really go for it…
You’ll do anything to avoid slippery or technical surfaces such as sand, mud, water, rocks, ice, slush and snow…
You just get frustrated with how much faster everyone else seems able to ride than you!
Fear of hurting yourself stops you making any real improvement in your riding skills…
You want to buy a bike but get overwhelmed with the sheer number of choices - suspension systems, frames shapes, sizes, materials and components…
You worry about your bike breaking down miles from civilization and the nearest repair shop, and would like to know how to fix it well enough to get you home…

Mountain Bike Forks and Rear Shocks

January 14, 2008 By: admin Category: Forks and Rear Shocks

Having a Marzocchi fork on the front of your steed is a sure-fire way of knowing you have a fork that can deal with anything the trail throws at it, and the new 888 RC3 WC is no different.

Using new 38mm nickel coated stanchions, the fork has a wider and sturdier stance than ever before and uses huge forged magnesium lower legs. Like Fox, Marzocchi have decided to use an integral cable mount for the front brake - but instead of the one-bolt design that Fox use, there is a simple plate with two Allen bolts to secure. It is a little fiddly with the twin bolt set-up, but is secure and looks tidy. A new post mount adorns the lower legs, along with a bolt-through axle.

A single titanium spring operates in the right leg, on top of which sits a nice chunky preload adjuster that’s simple to use. The other leg contains the RC3 cartridge - which has speed sensitive high and low compression damping, adjusted by the dial on the bottom of the fork leg. The dial on the top takes care of rebound damping, and the knurled ring under this adjusts the air volume, which has the same ramping up effect as raising the oil level. Our forks weighed slightly over the claimed weight of 3.17kg (6.98lbs) at 3.18kg (7.02lbs), but this still puts the fork very competitively in the race fork category - Fox 40s weigh 3.12kg (6.88lbs) and Rockshox Boxxer WCs, slightly less at 2.99kg (6.60lbs). Bear in mind that the Rockshox is an Air unit, and the Fox is a minimal race fork - the Marzocchi has the trademark ‘everything proof’ build that people have come to love from Marzocchi.

We’ve heard of some early sample problems with loose bushings on some Marzocchi’s, but these 888s are slick straight from the off. In fact they’re getting slicker the more we use them…

It took us a while to get them set up just right as there’s a lot of adjustment. We allowed the bushings to loosen slightly before going back to set-up and found we just needed a tad more compression. In use they feel lively - stiffer than last year’s fork and more controlled. It’s a very plush fork and the ride could only be that of a Marzocchi. It may not be the lightest, but it will roll through anything, laugh in the face of drops and loves to be abused.
